Build Your Smart Irrigation System with SONOFF Zigbee Smart Water Valve in Home Assistant with ZHA

Do you want to install a drip irrigation system in your house and set up an automated timer for the entire yard front and back gardens so that your plants won’t die when you go on vacation for a couple of weeks in the summer? meanwhile, you’ve installed Home Assistant so you not only need an automated valve but also need to make it work with Home Assistant, In this post we will explain how to configure SONOFF Zigbee smart water valve to work with Home Assistant via Zigbee Home Automation (ZHA) to automate your watering, this product can be widely used for sprinkler irrigation/drip irrigation/spray irrigation automation.

Prerequisite:
Before continuing, we assume you are already running ZHA on Home Assistant. If you’re not, then check out our guide on How to Set Up Zigbee Integration on HA Via ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT

The Configuration Process:
Firstly, open up your Home Assistant dashboard and navigate to the
Settings section, Select the Devices & services option from the settings menu.

Use the + Add Integration button in the bottom right-hand corner, This will open a pop-up that will allow you to search for a brand of integration, click add ZigBee device in ZHA, and then Zha should now be in the pairing State press and hold the button on SONOFF ZigBee water valve for five seconds until it starts to blink the ring, the pairing will start and in couple of seconds home assistant should be able to detect the device and SWV is ready to use.

Now you can view the device info, control the SWV, and check the firmware, and battery usage, if you would want to create automation in the home assistant you can start with simple automation for example 30 minutes after the SWV is turned on, we wait for 30 minutes for watering to be finished and then it will close the valve, of course, you can create more complex ones you can check the weather and see if any rainfall is predicted for today if it then skips the automation, etc, you can receive a notification message when SWV turned on or off, so it’s all up to you to create more specific automation that will fit your use case.

That’s the whole steps to configure SONOFF Zigbee Smart Water Valve in Home Assistant, just feel free to use this device in your HA dashboard and build your smart irrigation automation!

Was this tested outdoor, i have 3 Giex GX02 which seems to be super unreliable , and they fail when you expect them to work. Last update fixed some issues but still, i would not trust those anymore. I see that you have it working in ZHA which is a good thing, those ones work only with Z2MQTT and it was little difficult to setup.

I’ll see if i can get some of your to test to see if they are more reliable.

One Question i guess, How schedules are handled and what happens if connection fails ? In my case i have them like 30 m from the house outdoor, clear sight and using the HA Yellow does not work, i had to get a Sonoff zigbee usb stick and program that as router so i can extend the range of that and have it just on the limit of being able to program them, but i have times when i find the crops wet and some times when they did not work so in your case if payload is saved in the device and it runs not depending on the signal that would be perfect as that allows to run online/offline and that is what we want from a watering system , to be always working .

    Hopefully yours is better.

Hi, sorry that If the valve is beyond the signal range, the timer automation can not be executed, it still needs to a zigbee repeater to extend the signal range

Any chance of the watering volume coming to ZHA? I ordered 4 of these only to find out the watering volume is not available in ZHA/Home Assistant at this time…

Greetings.. In Z2M flow is shown as m3/hr . How can we get data in Liters/hr or Liters/min and also daily consumption/flow in Liters ?
