How to add Zigbee devices to home assistant via SONOFF zigbee 3.0 USB dongle plus.

SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus is a universal Zigbee USB stick. It can be used as a universal Zigbee gateway in Home Assistant or other open-source platforms via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT to locally control all your Zigbee sub-devices, so you don't need to invest in the Zigbee hubs for different brands, all you need is a universal gateway - Dongle Plus!

The dongle plus has a wide range of supported devices, such as BASICZBR3, S31 Lite zb, SNZB01, SNZB02, SNZB03, SNZB04, ZBMINI, S26R2ZB , and various sub-devices from various brands or flash router firmware to extend the network range.

The limits of ZBDongle Plus are 21 direct children and up to 40 children (Default values from official firmware). Supported to connect more by configurating yourself.
*Updated version (in the near future) will be supported to work with maximum 200 children.

Plugged the dongle and USB-extension cable to my VMware host, did USB-passthrough to virtual machine and start Zigbee2MQTT Docker container. So far everything just works, as they should. Can finally change my home automation away from the previous proprietary setup.

Fully Satisfied

Worked out of the box with zigbee2mqtt and homeassistant. Due to the good documentation i was able to flash ist with the latest firmware to be 100% compatible to more vedors.

Inexpensive and great support beyond Itead. Works fine in Home Assistant as I slowly migrate from OpenHAB. Updated with some open source tools and started adding devices. I couldn't be happier. I wish my Zwave experience was this smooth. I really should have ordered two because now I need another for automation at work.

Range is good but pairing devices is a nightmare

Dongle gets recognized and has a great range compared to my previous dongle. BUT pairing devices is a real nightmare. Some devices manage to get paired after 10+ tries, others simply refuse... while they're pairing just fine with the old dongle.
I've read that a firmware update could partially resolve this, but I have yet to try that.
