Overview

High Performance Miniature SDR Dongle for All !

Airspy Mini builds on top of the successful Airspy R2 architecture to offer an affordable high performance receiver for the VHF and UHF bands. The coverage can be extended to the HF bands via the SpyVerter up-converter companion.

This new addition to the Airspy family is 100% compatible with all the existing software including the de facto scanning standard SDR#, but also a number of popular software defined radio applications such as SDR-Radio, HDSDR, GQRX and GNU Radio.

Very good product !

I tested the Airspy and compared it to other RTL dongles. I can say that it is of very good quality. The price is higher than RTL dongles but the quality is there !

Airspy Mini - observations so far

I've been using RTL-SDR dongles for over 2 years now. I wanted to try something better. I've been using Airspy Mini for two weeks now and I can confirm that the difference is noticeable but not great without using decimation (other receivers have higher sensitivity and receive very weak signals that Airspy Mini only receives with 16 or 32 decimation and 16 - 18 gain, with exactly the same antennas). It is strange that (at least with my copy) with Airspy Mini I have to correct the reception frequency by +1.2Khz, for frequencies 468.587500 it must be set to 468.588700, while for frequencies from 50mhz to 146MHz a much smaller correction is needed, but the higher the frequency, the greater the correction is needed. (I must emphasize that this is not necessary with other SDRs that I own and other amateur radio devices.
Maybe this is just specific to my Airspy Mini.
Since the package was in a very thin envelope, the small cardboard box containing the receiver was completely crumpled!
I just ordered the Airspy HF+ Discovery, so I'll see how it performs.

the best for ADS-B

Yes, it's far more expensive than other SDRs (especially the ubiquitous RTL based ones), and it doesn't even include a filter and LNA. But it is so much better than the RTL based SDR, it's pretty amazing. Expect significantly higher message counts and more planes over all - but do keep in mind that you may need a filter and LNA as well. It's a lot of money. But to me it is worth it.

Good new SDR

got as upgrade from rtlsdr for VHF frequencies. Sensitivity much better with same setups as rtlsdr. Bandwidth also much wider, so can see some types of signal in much better resolution. Price/featue vice is great for sure you get what you payed for.

A very efficient and portable SDR

I own a Airspy HF+ Discovery and a Airspy R2 which are on a fixed installation, and bought this Mini just to be able to bring it with me when I am in vacation.
It is a very well working unit and go high quality, as I expected to be.

Excellent device

The Airspy mini works really well with the GQRX program, does all I expected it to, but agree with other comments that it does run very hot under certain circumstances.>>>
